Pain points

What slows the work, and what it costs.

Inside the tool

Illustrative example. Harborline is a sample workspace; its people are fictional.

Inside the tool

  1. Category

The problem in plain words, filed under one of the product’s categories.

  2. Impact

What it costs, in lost time or money, marked Estimated until it’s based on records.

  3. Who can confirm this?

The figure, who it covers, and the person who can confirm it.

  4. Priority · suggested

Suggested from severity and deadlines. A person confirms it, with a reason.

  5. How teams work around it today

What people do instead for now, kept with the problem.

Four impact labels. See what supports each figure.

Every impact shows how it was arrived at. A confirmed result is something else: it belongs to an initiative, on Delivery.

Suggested

Jumpstart found a figure in a source.

Review it before you rely on it.

Estimated

A best estimate, with the person who can confirm it.

Measured

Based on records, which the impact names.

Needs review

The process facts behind it changed.

Review the affected time.

What you can do.

  • One record per problem

Describe it, file it under a category, and note how often it happens, how severe it is, which departments it affects and how people work around it today.

  • Size it in time or money

Record the hours or money it costs, as a best estimate or from records, with the person who can confirm it. Only people who can see financials see money.

  • Estimate time from the process

Work out the hours from the process’s cases per month and minutes per case. If those facts change, the pain point asks for a review.

  • A priority you confirm

Meridi suggests a priority from severity and deadlines, and a person confirms it with a reason.

  • Found in interviews and documents

Pain points arrive from approved interviews and, through Jumpstart, from your documents, each with its source. Nothing is added without a person’s approval.

  • Guides for the conversations

Generate an interview guide paced to the meeting, with must-ask questions first, and track what you’ve covered as you go.
